KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 31 (ES) – Islamic Party of Malaysia (PAS) Youth and Women’s Wing this year celebrated the coming of 2008 with a difference, they did it at the Kuala Lumpur City Centre (KLCC) grounds.

Led by Youth chief and MP for Kubang Kerian Salahudin Ayub and Central Committee member Dr Lo’ Lo’ Mohd Ghazali, they brought the message of love and relief to the thousands thronging the KLCC.

“We are doing this to strengthen and increase our engagement with people especially those who might be facing very real problems and challenges.

“I noticed that there is not a single non-governmental organisation (NGO) or government body present tonight to approach and understand them.

Asked whether there were there a lot of negative responses, he said the opposite was true.

“The response has been great. They were friendly and we were even asked to take photographs with them,” he chuckled.

The campaign which started off at 10pm ended at the stroke of midnight. 20000 copies of pamphlets bearing information regarding the campaign were distributed.

Roadblocks spotted

Meanwhile in anticipation of the large crowds tonight several roadblocks were seen at major roads leading to the city centre since late afternoon.

They were last seen set up at those particular locations were during the run-up and on the day of the Bersih and Hindraf rally last November. – Wan Zahari/ES
